A WCC (ETE), CEC (Churches in Dialogue) and Volos Acadeny Project - 16-18 OCTOBER 2011, Volos

The Program on Ecumenical Theological Education of the World Council of Churches (ETE/WCC) in collaboration with the Commission “Churches in Dialogue” of the Conference of European Churches (CiD/CEC) and the Volos Academy for Theological Studies, has suggested the planning of a project for a major Handbook for teaching ecumenism in Orthodox contexts. This resource book aims to facilitate theological education with regard to the ecumenical movement in the context of Orthodox theological faculties, theological schools and beyond. This publication is also planned as an important Orthodox contribution to the forthcoming 2013 Assemblies of the WCC and CEC. Referred to in the Conference of European Churches' constitution as "making common contribution to the mission of the Church, the safeguarding of life, to renew common life and witness", the Churches in Dialogue Commission (CID) is at the very heart of the work of CEC.

On these pages, we would like to give you an overview of our work. The Churches in Dialogue Commission...

... initiates and supports religious and inter-religious dialogue among and on behalf of the CEC member churches;

... actively engages in the study and analysis of contempory trends relating to theological education, mission, inter-religious dialogue, and inter-church dialogue across Europe;

... promotes the participation of the churches in the shaping of an agenda for better understanding and implementing the common proclamation of the Gospel, and

... participates in the search for patterns and forms of ecumenical spirituality that support ecumenical encounter.
