CEC Commisson on Churches in Dialogue (CiD): A research study project on Ecumenical Theological Formation in Europe. 2012-2013

(A Graz Process Initiative)    

The Churches in Dialogue Commission (CiD) of the Conference of European Churches (CEC) and the Catholic Theological Faculty of Graz University jointly organised a meeting which was mandated in July 2010 by the 3rd Consultation of Theological Faculties in Europe. A Coordinating Committee of 15 people was established with the mandate to stimulate and bring forward the Graz process, to implement its objectives, to prepare Europe-wide consultations and to facilitate regional issue-related meetings.  Among the main objectives and tasks of the Graz Process as a Forum of Theological Higher Education and Research in Europe  are:

  • “Implementing the tasks of ecumenical cooperation in theological education and research according to the Charta Oecumenica and networking between institutions of theological education in Europe;
  • Strengthening the ecumenical dimension of theology and theological education;
  • Promoting the visibility of theological education and research in Europe and lobbying for the future of theology and religious studies within European universities”.

Theology must claim its credibility

“Theology must claim its credibility in the Church, society and the academic community”. This was the general understanding of the 45 representatives of theological faculties and institutions at the consultation on “The future of theology in the changing landscapes of universities in Europe and beyond “ which was held in Granavollen, Norway, 5-7 June 2012.

While mission expresses the unity that is given by God, unity gives credibility to the mission, states the final document of the consultation on Mission and Unity organised by the Churches in Dialogue Commission of the Conference of European Churches in Turku, Finland 29-30 May 2012.

CHURCHES IN DIALOGUE COMMISSION:

Preparatory meeting toward the publication of a Handbook on Teaching Ecumenism in Orthodox Contexts 
 
A WCC (ETE), CEC (Churches in Dialogue) and Volos Acadeny Project - 16-18 OCTOBER 2011, Volos 

The Program on Ecumenical Theological Education of the World Council of Churches (ETE/WCC) in collaboration with the Commission “Churches in Dialogue” of the Conference of European Churches (CiD/CEC) and the Volos Academy for Theological Studies, has suggested the planning of a project for a major Handbook for teaching ecumenism in Orthodox contexts. This resource book aims to facilitate theological education with regard to the ecumenical movement in the context of Orthodox theological faculties, theological schools and beyond. This publication is also planned as an important Orthodox contribution to the forthcoming 2013 Assemblies of the WCC and CEC.
